We repair broken and damaged videotapes
Repair service for broken or damaged video cassette tapes including:
- Video 8, 8mm, Hi8 and Digital 8
- VHS and Super VHS
- VHS-C and Super VHS-C
- MiniDV and MicroMV
How we fix damaged tapes
We carefully strip down the cassette housing, trim the damaged ends square and then join the tape back together using a very thin yet strong splicing tape.
Once the cassette has been re-assembled we transfer the footage onto DVD.
We also repair broken or damaged mechanical parts we find within the cassette housing. If the casing is broken we transfer the reels into a new housing.
The majority of repairs are fairly straightforward and can be completed quite quickly. Some tapes have bonded cassette cases (plastic welded) rather than screws. These have to be carefully drilled to separate the two halves and therefore takes more time to complete.
Copy the repaired tape to DVD
Once a videotape has been spliced it should only be considered as a temporary repair. We can transfer your repaired tape to DVD. We don’t offer a fixed price for videotape repairs because it’s difficult to guess what parts we might need to fix your tape. What we can do is give you our best estimate over the phone or by email. If you’re happy with the cost then we’ll proceed on that basis. If the tape arrives and we cannot complete the work at the estimated price then we will advise you accordingly.
